Contrary to popular belief, yoga isn’t the mere process of performing a variety of stretches on a mat, no, though part of it, the word ‘yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit root 'Yuj', meaning 'to join' or 'to yoke' or 'to unite'. It is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices which originated in ancient India that aims to quieten our thoughts, freeing them from mundane suffering; and thus bringing about perfect harmony between the mind and body; man and nature.
I’ve been going to Green Tree Yoga for half a year now, and I must say I look forward to practising yoga with Shardy every week. It is a welcoming experience from the very moment you step afoot in her beautiful garden that must be traversed to reach the yoga studio at the back.
The yoga studio is always clean and never too hot or cold. The background music is calming, and the view out onto the garden is gorgeous. It is especially beautiful at the end of practice when the rays of sunlight pass in between the leaves and form kaleidoscopic patterns of reds and oranges on our closed eyelids.
Shardy is a wonderful yoga teacher, always radiating warmth and love. She is caring, always asking us about our day; always asking us if the yoga moves aren’t causing too much pain and is always ready to tactfully adjust practices on an individual basis so no one feels left out.
Her yoga and biological knowledge are extensive. And thanks to her, I am a lot more flexible and in less overall pain. I have seen a lot of personal progress since going to Green Tree Yoga, but progress has not only been in the physical realm. After every session I feel a great sense of peace and oneness with everything around me. The mental chatter quietens and my day feels brighter, less stressful.
What Shardy teaches at Green Tree Yoga is real yoga. To help people both physically, mentally and spiritually is exceptionally precious. To help instil peace in another being is the definition of love. In a world where nearly everything tries to drain your energy and cause mental and physical suffering, I feel extremely blessed to have stumbled upon someone and something that gives me energy. My mother and girlfriend, both of who also go to Green Tree Yoga, also agree with me.
Thank you Shardy for teaching us yoga.
Namaste.
I’ve been going to Shardy’s Yin Restorative Yoga class for a few years and my body really notices if I miss a practice. It’s a beautiful guided class that’s perfect for anyone who wants to relax their body and mind.
Shardy brings a fun and engaging yet calming energy to her class that makes you feel welcome and seen. And whether it’s in person or via live streaming, Shardy is attentive and adaptive to everyone’s needs, modifying all her poses so as to make sure that, regardless of what your body can or can’t manage, your pose is hitting the right spot.
You will never feel bad in this class if your body can’t do something because you’ll realise it can never do nothing. And afterwards, you’ll sleep well. I couldn’t recommend this class enough and I’d recommend it to everyone.
Since starting Shardy’s Yin Yoga sessions each week I’ve noticed a massive change in my body and in my breathing. It’s been a godsend during this past year and helps me with my stress levels and with sleeping. I can now do poses I never believed would be possible. I look forward to the weekly classes and have also been continuing practice in between. Shardy is a beautiful teacher, always gently encouraging and giving me the confidence to know what my body needs
Thanks for such a lovely yoga Nidra last night Shardy - I slept like a log.
I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed the yin yoga session last night Shardy. You are amazing. Totally loved it. Would like to come every week please.
I have suffered from Fibromyalgia for a couple of years now and moving around was extremely painful. I started Yin Yoga with Shardy, thinking I had nothing to lose, and I was not doing any other exercise - and oh my goodness! I am flexible, the pain that I suffered all over my body are mere ’twinges’ now.
I cannot recommend Yin with Shardy enough. It concentrates on stretching out the muscles which is obviously something that I should have done ages ago. My sleep has also improved, especially after the session. The best 75 mins of my week!
A lovely relaxing class. I feel so much better after.
I have been with Shardy for more than 2 years now, she is a wonderful caring teacher, mentor and coach. She listens to you and teaches you Asanas to suit your body and mind. I suffered from shoulder pain and regular headaches which have completely gone, my body has become more flexible and supple. I have lost weight and mental well being has improved a lot, much happier now. I am so grateful to Shardy for continuing her classes on zoom during lockdown. I have seen many yoga videos on YouTube and been to many yoga classes before meeting Shardy, nothing comes closer to her, she is just amazing and has changed my life. Thank you so much Shardy.
Saturday morning yoga has been a godsend during lockdown. Shardy is a really great teacher - what better way to kickstart the weekend.
Having recently moved to the area, I was looking for a new local yoga class and am delighted to have discovered Green Tree Yoga. Shardy is a wonderful teacher, encouraging and attentive, offering a warm welcome and a lovely calm environment to practise. I love being physically challenged, but safe knowing there is always an adaptation to a pose if I can’t quite ‘get there’. Lessons are a perfect blend of physically engaging and mentally rewarding and I always leave the studio feeling stronger and lighter. Best of all is the variety of lessons. Being able to choose the challenge and vibe that suits me each week is perfect. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend!
I have previously been to many yoga practices and nothing compares to Green Tree Yoga. Shardy is an amazing teacher and is very helpful. She makes you feel very welcomed and comfortable. The yoga space is also very peaceful and beautiful. I am grateful to have come across this yoga practice and will continue to be coming here. Thank you Shardy.
With Shardy's instruction, I know I am doing postures with good form and most importantly safely. She is always able to offer students modifiers to make poses easier, or more challenging when the student is ready. Shardy's sequences are also really creative and flow nicely. I'm a fan 🙂
The amazing experience starts with Shardy’s beautifully decorated studio, and gets better from there. She pre plans my 1:1 sessions & then adapts them to specific needs on the day. Her experience & knowledge are vast, but what I really appreciate is her nurturing, encouraging way of helping me develop with yoga. Thank you 🙂
Excellent Introduction to yoga. Clear instructions and hands on help if you need it. Extra handouts very helpful.
Shardy really enjoys teaching her class and its a lovely calming atmosphere.
I never thought yoga would be my 'thing' but I absolutely love it. Shardy is a brilliant teacher and never makes you feel silly if you cant quite get the move- she caters to all levels of yoga experience.
On a personal note I suffer with anxiety and since taking up yoga once a week I have noticed a massive difference, feeling much calmer and less anxious. I would recommend for anyone who suffers from anxiety.
I've been attending class for just over a year and I am beyond happy to have such a lovely yoga class so local to the Bushey/Oxhey area. The hot yoga is a must! The classes are small which I prefer. It isn't overwhelming or aesthetic-focused, so it makes for a perfect start to the weekend - physically and mentally. Thank you Shardy for the community x
I wanted to tell you how much I loved last nights class. I’m totally reset and relaxed.
Thank you for being such a fab teacher.
I joined the 4 week introduction to yoga course and despite the fact that I am a more mature woman and have never done any yoga before I really enjoyed it! So much so that I have returned to class nearly every week since.
The studio is a lovely purpose built warm and cosy area to work in and Shardy is a very perceptive teacher supporting some of us with props whilst stretching others.
I would recommend her courses and class to anyone looking to begin or further their knowledge of yoga.
Hi, my name is Margaret.
Ten years ago I was diagnosed with many conditions on my spine, two years ago arthritis in both hips.
Medication helps but I was walking with a stick.
That was until until a year ago I was introduced to Shardy, who runs yoga classes.
I joined one of her classes and after about three months I did not need the stick!!
I am so pleased I started yoga and intend to continue for many more years.
Did I mention I am nearly 83 so you are never too old to try.
